COVID-19 Adoption Policy Changes

Due to social distancing requirements of COVID-19, SALDEA does not foresee being able to conduct our beloved adoption events at Novey in the near future.  However, we are still adopting pets!  Here is our COVID-19 adoption process:

  1. We advertise available animals on our website, Facebook, and Instagram.  If you see an animal you are interested in, contact us and we will provide you with more information, extra photos, and videos, if you like.
  2. If you would like to adopt an animal, you will need to take us on a virtual tour of your home using video chat.  We need to see that your doors, screens, and windows are secure (for cats) and that your fence and gate are secure (for dogs).
  3. We will make a socially distanced visit to the outside of your property, standing on the street.  We will inspect the windows (cats) and fence (dogs).
  4. You will need to purchase basic items before the pet is delivered to you. You will need a litter box and cat litter for cats, and a collar/harness and leash for dogs.  You will need to have high quality pet food, such as Kirkland, Animal Planet, or Purina.
  5. If you are ready to adopt, we will fill out the adoption application ahead of time and have you sign it and pay the donation fee at the time of adoption.  We will bring the pet to you and deliver it at the time the contract is signed.  SALDEA volunteers will wear masks and maintain 6 feet of distance from you.
  6. As always, SALDEA is available for follow-up support if you have questions or concerns.

Healing and Hope for Cora

Cora is a young pup who was thrown from a moving car and left to die on the side of the road.  She was rescued by a kind person passing by, and found her way to Saldea.  We are caring for Cora as she begins a long and costly rehabilitation.  Both legs on her right side were broken from being thrown.  She is malnourished, severely anemic, has skin fungus, and suffered from fleas and parasites.  She had orthopedic surgery to put pins in her legs, at $300 per leg.  She is on pain meds and antibiotics, in addition to nutritional supplements.  Cora will need many months to recover from the neglect and trauma she suffered.  We estimate her medical costs at about $800.  We are conducting a GoGetFunding fundraiser for her to help defray her extraordinary costs: Healing and Hope for Cora

COVID-19 Food Distributions

SALDEA has been responding to the needs of pet owners impacted by job loss due to COVID-19.  Agencias Escoffery, S.A. in David is selling us food at wholesale prices.  We are, depending on donations, able to purchase pet food at steep discounts and donate it to families that need help.
